Brian visits his Gran every fortnight with his Mum. He kindly brings me some of his very tasty shortbread, made with his Gran's recipe. After his visit there is a foil wrapped parcel left for me with the message "Agnes from Brian".
It's a lovely thing for a young man to do and I greatly appreciate his kindness.
My daughter came in this evening and spotted the foil wrapped parcel and said,"oh Brian's shortbread" and proceeded to put the kettle on.
This got me thinking. My daughter has never met Brian but knows about his shortbread so sometimes our kind gestures go before us.
I visit Brian's Gran because I have known her all my life. She moved into our street as a young bride in the year I was born. Fifty yards along the road is the house where I was born and as I sit in Brian's Gran's living room I can look across the road to what had been the home of my Mother's dearest friend. I am surrounded by memories.
This week in our Ignatian Prayer Group we have been reflecting on "Reviewing your life Journey" and Brian's Gran is part of the journey linking me to all who are now with God. Brian's Gran is ill and she quietly sits in her chair as Carers come and go. She is not able to make shortbread now but Brian is carrying on in her footsteps. The circle is unbroken.
Thankyou Lord for all our families and friends who have gone before us. Please help us to see you in all the people we meet each day.
