We are a week away from Ash Wednesday and Lent will begin and rather than giving up something I want to give more. Reflecting on discernment over the last few days made me realize this and although my body is tired my mind is healthy and I desire God in my life more and more so like I said in my last blog, that by giving up I can gain more.
After Tuesday, our prayer group will put aside the "Growing into Silence" booklet for the moment and pray and reflect on Lent.
I heard recently about an American parish which has been evangelized after a prayer group had been established. Now I'm not saying that our church could be evangelized by our wee group's prayers, but why not?
Enter, the niggling guilt of a few blogs back when I felt I wasn't clever enough to speak up. Lord, take away this inadequate feeling and fill me with your Grace to continue.
If a parish prays then God is happy so whether it be The Rosary, The Divine Mercy, Charismatic Prayer Groups or the many different prayers in the church, they are all special and meaningful to God, so I'm thankful that a few of us have come together to pray and if in our own humble way we can help to evangelize then the Holy Spirit will use other people and give them the Grace to do likewise.
Parish communities are made up of prayerful people. Father Patrick Peyton's words come to mind "The family that prays together, stays together". Now we can change one word and we have two prayer groups "The parish that prays together. stays together".
Thank you Lord
