Tomorrow morning at our Ignatian Prayer Group we will be on exercise 4 on the subject of discernment from "Growing into Silence".
Discernment is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and is a very important gift. It's when head and heart go together. As for myself, I mull over things in my mind before deciding on the right path . The mulling over leads to asking God because I need him to show me the way.
I started writing this last evening but tiredness caught up with me so here I go again.
At this morning's Ignatian Prayer Group seven of us gathered for prayer and reflection on discernment in the sanctuary of our church. After a piece of music Fran led us to a stilling, outwardly and inwardly, which led me to asking God in the quietness of my heart to show me in this prayer what it would be useful for me to see.
At this point in the prayer group we can leave the sanctuary and go to our own quiet place of prayer in the church. I usually go to the seats near where the choir would sit and this I duly did then prayed , taking notes on my thoughts and found this to be a special time between myself and God.
When we went back to the sanctuary, Fran asked us to share our thoughts with the person by our side and then later to the whole group. I liked this and it took me back to Growth in Prayer and Reflective Living at the Ignatian Centre in Glasgow. Sharing is optional. It's a gentle group with no pressure on anyone.
I know in my heart that God has been telling me to slow down and now my head is telling me the same.
Thank you Lord for today and to seeing that by giving some things up, I can get to know you better.
