At our Ignatian Prayer Group this morning in the Sanctuary of our church, St John the Evangelist, Cumnock, this poem, "Snowdrops" was part of four printed on a sheet and handed to our group.
Snowdrops:
Do you know what I was, how I lived,? You know what despair is;
then winter should have meaning for you.
I did not expect to survive, earth suppressing me,
I didn't expect to waken again, to feel in damp earth my body able to respond again
in cold light of earliest spring.......
Afraid, yes, but among you again
crying yes risk joy
In the raw wind of the new world.

Fran who led our group this morning had suggested that as part of our floor display, pages 10/11 in the "Growing into Silence" booklet should be the theme. Page ten is "Reviewing your life Journey" and page 11 portrays a tranquil path bordered by bushes and trees. Catherine did the display with green material as a background and a path of stone coloured material leading towards the path in the book page. Lit T light candles along the "path" with flowers and stones on either side and a little vase of snowdrops.
We took turns reading pages 22 and 23 " Holiness and Wholeness" by Brendan Callaghan SJ and then left our little circle to spend some time in quiet prayer and refection in a chosen corner of our church.
When we came together again we shared our "journey".
We are growing in faith as a group. Ignatian Spiritualty is a beautiful way pray. Today's "Snowdrop" and in yesterday's "Kiss of Spring" I quote the second last verse:
As life breaks out from the earth
the Lord of Spring, working in our church,
calls us to new hope.
